Payment for Services
The OCD & Scrupulosity Clinic accepts payments via cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, or credit card. Credit card processing (including the processing of health savings account -HSA- cards) and Venmo payments do incur a processing fee. Please contact us to inquire about specific rates for services. Payment is due at the time the service is rendered.
Insurance Reimbursement
Online courses or consultations: Insurance does not reimburse for online courses or consultations. All fees for online courses or consultations require out-of-pocket payment.
Psychotherapy treatment sessions: We work with clients across the country. As such, we do not work with specific insurance companies. We do not bill insurance directly or negotiate agreements with specific insurance companies. We are “out-of-network” providers with all insurance companies. This means we are not participating providers with any insurance companies.
Although we do not accept insurance directly, your insurance company may reimburse you for a percentage of therapy fees for using an out-of-network provider if you have any out-of-network coverage. If you do not have out-of-network coverage, your insurance company will not reimburse you for our services, leaving you to pay the whole fee out-of-pocket.
If you have out-of-network coverage, we will happily provide you with a statement (superbill) suitable for submission to your insurance company should you choose to file claims on your own seeking reimbursement. Clients are generally successful in seeking reimbursement for at least a portion of their therapy fees, but please remember that reimbursement is considered a matter between you and your insurance company. Always check with your insurance company directly for questions about your coverage and out-of-network benefits.
To determine your mental health coverage, first, check with your insurance carrier by viewing your plan summary or calling the number on the back of your card listed for mental health. Check your coverage carefully regarding outpatient psychotherapy and find the answers to the following questions:
• Do I have “out-of-network” mental health benefits? If you do not have out-of-network coverage, insurance will not reimburse you for our services.
• Is there a deductible that must be met first? If so, how much is it? Do my payments for therapy apply to my deductible even if I do not have “out-of-network” coverage?
• What is the coverage amount for a therapy session? Usually, the insurance company reimburses a percentage of what it has deemed “usual and customary.” As we are OCD specialists, our fees are generally higher than this amount (meaning they may not reimburse for all paid fees).
• How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
• Is approval required from my primary care physician?
• Are telehealth/video chat sessions covered (if applicable)?
If insurance does not cover your psychological services with Dr. McClendon, then you are likely eligible to deduct the cost of services on your tax return as a health-related expense (please consult your accountant or tax return adviser for specific guidelines and information). You can also use money from a health savings account or flex account to pay for services.
What is the likelihood that you can get some financial reimbursement? It depends on your particular insurance plan. Some clients have very good rates of reimbursement and can get significant portions of the fees reimbursed, while some clients have high deductibles or no out-of-network mental health coverage at all, requiring them to pay the entire fee out-of-pocket. Again, check with your insurance carrier to determine your specific benefits.
Medicare/Medicaid
Dr. McClendon is not a covered provider for Medicare or Medicaid. This means that she is excluded from Medicare under the Social Security Act, and that you or your legal representative accept full responsibility for payment of all charges congruent with Dr. McClendon's policies. Usual Medicare limits to charges and services do not apply.
